Pakistan has received its first shipment from Central Asia through a new trade route that passes via China. The development marks an important step in regional trade expansion.
The shipment arrived from Kyrgyzstan and reached the Sost dry port in Gilgit-Baltistan. It traveled through China using the Khunjerab Pass before entering Pakistan.
This new route allows goods to move without passing through Afghanistan. It comes at a time when trade through traditional routes has faced disruptions and delays.
Officials said the corridor provides a more stable and secure pathway for international trade. The system connects Central Asian countries with Pakistan’s ports.
Under the new arrangement, goods pass through China and then reach Karachi port. This gives landlocked Central Asian countries direct access to sea trade routes for the first time.
The corridor links several countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. These countries are expected to benefit from faster and more reliable trade access.
The shipment was processed under a transit agreement managed by a partner company of the National Logistics Cell. Officials described the route as efficient and time-saving for regional trade movement.
The use of China as a transit route is seen as a key factor in making the corridor operational. It strengthens connectivity between Central Asia and South Asia through improved infrastructure links.
Authorities said the new system reduces dependence on traditional trade routes. It also helps avoid logistical and political challenges faced in other transit corridors.
Pakistan aims to strengthen its role as a regional trade hub. The country is using its geographic position to connect Central Asian economies with global markets.
The successful arrival of the first shipment highlights growing cooperation between Pakistan, Central Asian states, and China. Officials believe this route can support long-term trade growth.
Experts say the corridor could increase economic activity and improve supply chain efficiency. It may also encourage more investment in regional transport infrastructure.
