The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved and recommended five major development projects. The projects have a combined value of Rs. 60.259 billion.
The initiatives cover several important sectors. These include health, roads, water supply, housing, science and technology.
The meeting was chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. Three projects worth Rs. 11.714 billion received approval from the CDWP.
Two other projects worth Rs. 48.545 billion were sent to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Rs. 29 Billion Gwadar Water Project
The largest project discussed was a Rs. 29 billion water supply scheme for Gwadar Town.
The project will bring water to Gwadar from Mirani Dam. It has been referred to ECNEC for further consideration.
Ahsan Iqbal also directed the Balochistan government to examine wastewater treatment in Gwadar.
The planning minister wants sewage treatment to prevent pollution in the sea. He allowed the project to proceed toward the bidding stage.
However, no contract can be awarded before ECNEC approves the project.
Medical and Nursing College in Gilgit
The CDWP approved a Medical and Nursing College in Gilgit.
The revised cost of the project stands at Rs. 4.924 billion.
The project was originally launched in 2017. However, funding problems caused significant delays.
Ahsan Iqbal directed authorities to ensure the project is completed.
The college is expected to strengthen healthcare education and training opportunities in Gilgit.
National Defence University Campus
Another approved project involves the National Defence University (NDU).
The NDU FCS Campus will be established at the Defence Complex in Islamabad.
The project has an estimated cost of Rs. 2.753 billion.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader development planning. It focuses on strengthening institutional and educational infrastructure.
Road Project in Orakzai
The CDWP also approved a major road project in Orakzai District.
The project covers a 53.4-kilometre road from Zera to Daboori.
Its estimated cost is Rs. 4.037 billion.
The road project dates back to 2016 but has faced delays.
Ahsan Iqbal directed officials to release the remaining funds before winter. This could help authorities complete the long-delayed road project.
Karachi Neighborhood Improvement Project
The Rs. 19.545 billion Karachi Neighborhood Improvement Project was also discussed.
The project has been referred to ECNEC for approval.
It will receive financing from foreign sources and the Sindh government’s development program.
The latest decisions show the government’s focus on infrastructure and public services.
The projects are expected to support improvements in healthcare, transport, water supply and urban development.
