The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will begin construction of two new underpasses in Islamabad next month. The move aims to improve traffic flow and make daily travel easier for residents. The announcement came during a high-level meeting on development projects in the federal capital.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired the meeting at the CDA headquarters. He reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and discussed future development plans for Islamabad. During the meeting, he confirmed that work on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass and the Faisal Mosque Underpass will start next month.
The new underpasses are expected to reduce traffic congestion at two of Islamabad’s busiest locations. Officials believe the projects will improve road connectivity and provide smoother travel for commuters. The CDA plans to complete the projects as part of its broader effort to upgrade the city’s infrastructure.
Besides discussing road projects, the meeting focused on improving emergency services in Islamabad. Mohsin Naqvi expressed concern over the lack of a fully operational Emergency 1122 system in the capital. He directed the relevant authorities to establish the Capital Emergency Services on an urgent basis.
The interior minister also instructed officials to complete all required legal procedures without delay. After the formalities are finished, work will begin on four new emergency centers across Islamabad. The planned facilities are expected to improve emergency response and public safety.
The meeting also covered the CDA’s financial planning. Officials presented proposals to increase the authority’s permanent sources of revenue. Mohsin Naqvi directed the CDA to prepare a sustainable revenue model that can support future development projects while strengthening its financial position.
In addition, the minister emphasized the importance of completing the Expressway Service Road Project on time. He instructed officials to ensure the project remains within the approved schedule. Timely completion, he said, is necessary to improve transportation and meet public expectations.
Officials also briefed the meeting on several major development projects currently underway in Islamabad. Future planning for the capital’s infrastructure was also discussed. The government aims to continue investing in projects that improve transportation, public services, and urban development.
The construction of the two new underpasses is expected to become one of the key infrastructure projects in Islamabad over the coming months.
