Babar Azam's Superb 50 Propels Rangpur Riders To BPL Win

In the tenth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Pakistani batting sensation Babar Azam made a stellar debut, playing a remarkable innings that guided his team, Rangpur Riders, to a convincing victory. Azam’s unbeaten knock of 56 runs played a crucial role as Rangpur Riders successfully chased down the target of 121 runs set by Sylhet Strikers, securing a 4-wicket win in 18.2 overs.

The initial phase of the chase proved challenging for Rangpur Riders, facing a daunting situation with 6 wickets down for just 39 runs. However, Babar Azam showcased his class and composure, anchoring the innings and forming a match-winning partnership of 86 runs with Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai. This partnership not only stabilized the innings but also paved the way for Rangpur Riders’ triumph.

Despite the success of Azam and Omarzai, the Sylhet Strikers had a standout performer in leg-spinner Dushan Hemantha from Sri Lanka, who managed to take 3 crucial wickets while conceding just 20 runs in his 4 overs. Unfortunately for the Strikers, none of the other bowlers provided significant support in terms of taking wickets.

Earlier in the match, Rangpur Riders exhibited an exceptional bowling performance, limiting the Sylhet Strikers to a mere 120 runs in the allocated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Babar Azam, in addition to his batting prowess, contributed in the field with a magnificent run-out that halted the Strikers’ progress.

English player Benny Howell emerged as the top scorer for Sylhet Strikers, contributing a crucial 43 runs. However, the lack of substantial support from other batters prevented the team from posting a formidable total. Bowlers Mahedi Hasan and Ripon Mondol played pivotal roles for Rangpur Riders, with Hasan taking 2 wickets and conceding 18 runs in 4 overs, while Mondol also claimed 2 wickets, giving away 19 runs in his 4-over spell. Their economical bowling played a key role in restricting the opponent’s scoring opportunities and setting the stage for Rangpur Riders’ successful chase.
