Babar Azam To Resume Pakistan Captaincy Soon

Pakistan’s dynamic batsman, Babar Azam, is poised to reclaim the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team as the new management of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reevaluates the decision in light of current circumstances.

Azam, renowned as one of the finest players in T20 and ODI formats, had relinquished captaincy across all formats last year due to disagreements with the management.

With the recent change in top officials, the PCB is expected to reinstate Babar Azam as the captain of the national men’s team. Local media reports suggest that the star batsman is hesitant to resume this responsibility.

Shaheen Afridi’s tenure as T20I captain appears uncertain, with Babar Azam emerging as the likely successor. Initially, Mohammad Rizwan was considered for the role, but recent developments have favored Babar’s appointment.

The Cricket Board officials are anticipated to finalize the decision regarding Babar’s captaincy in the coming days.

Following the 2023 World Cup, Babar lost his captaincy in white-ball cricket to Shaheen Afridi. Subsequently, he stepped down from the red-ball captaincy, leading to Shan Masood’s appointment. Pakistan’s performance suffered during Shaheen’s captaincy, notably experiencing defeats in Australia and New Zealand.

Under the new changes, there is speculation about the potential return of Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir to the T20I squad, raising concerns about their previous criticism of Babar’s leadership.
