Police have detained the man accused of attacking a food delivery rider in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The arrest came following widespread public outrage and demands for strict legal action against the suspect.
According to police, the suspect was taken into custody during a raid conducted in the DHA Badr Commercial area. Authorities also seized the vehicle that was allegedly used during the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials said the accused was reportedly planning to leave Karachi for another city before law enforcement officers arrested him. Police have launched further investigations and are collecting evidence related to the case.
The incident reportedly occurred after a minor collision between a car and a motorcycle in the Defence area. Witnesses said the driver of the car became angry, stepped out of his vehicle and allegedly assaulted the food delivery rider with a hockey stick.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect also damaged the rider’s motorcycle during the attack. Reports further claimed that he chased the delivery rider while carrying the hockey stick and allegedly issued serious threats.
Following the incident, the delivery rider approached the police and filed a complaint, requesting legal action against the accused. Authorities registered the case and initiated an investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
The assault drew widespread criticism on social media after a video of the attack circulated online. Many users condemned the violence and called for stronger legal protection for delivery riders, who often face safety risks while performing their duties.
Police said the investigation is continuing and that further legal proceedings will be carried out in accordance with the law. Officials also reiterated their commitment to taking action against anyone involved in violence or intimidation.
