Share

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar celebrated Independence Day by proudly announcing his Indian citizenship, affirming his deep-rooted love for his nation. The actor, who had faced criticism for also holding Canadian citizenship, took to social media to share the news, emphasizing his unwavering attachment to India.

This revelation follows his earlier statement about applying for a passport change to reflect his dedication to his home country. Akshay Kumar’s journey has been a mix of highs and lows. He had sought Canadian citizenship during a career slump after a series of movie flops in the 1990s.

In contrast, his recent film, “OMG 2,” has been a tremendous success at the box office, accumulating an impressive $7.4 million. The film’s Monday collection alone reached $1.6 million, surpassing its opening day earnings of $1.37 million.

“OMG 2” features Kumar as a messenger of Bholenath (Lord Shiva), with Pankaj Tripathi portraying a devotee named Kanti Sharan Mudgal, and Yami Gautam playing a significant role. The movie tackles themes of teenage concerns and the importance of sex education.

Initially facing scrutiny due to its religious subject matter, the film underwent speculation about potential delays during the censor board process. Eventually, it received an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Akshay Kumar’s declaration of Indian citizenship, coupled with the triumph of “OMG 2,” highlights his unwavering commitment to both his country and his craft. This has garnered praise from fans and industry peers alike.
