Over 500,000 Students Fail Matric Exams 2025 Across Pakistan

The Inter-Board Coordination Commission has released a detailed report on the Matriculation Annual Examinations 2025. The report shows that more than 500,000 students failed across Pakistan. This has raised concerns about education standards and academic performance.

According to the findings, the results highlight major gaps in learning outcomes. The report suggests that the issue is widespread across several education boards.

The data shows that 500,000 students could not pass the examinations nationwide. This figure reflects challenges in teaching quality and student preparation.

Punjab recorded the highest number of failures. In total, more than 1.226 million students appeared in the Matriculation Annual Examinations 2025 across nine boards. Out of these, over 358,000 students failed.

In Lahore Board alone, 253,000 candidates appeared in the exams. Among them, 87,419 students could not pass. This contributed significantly to the total number of 500,000 students who failed across the country.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also reported a large number of unsuccessful candidates. Around 444,000 students appeared under eight education boards. Out of these, 80,558 students failed the exams.

Sindh performed comparatively better than other provinces. Six boards reported around 450,000 students appearing in the exams. However, approximately 51,000 students failed in the province.

In Balochistan, the Quetta Board reported 78,839 candidates. Out of them, 9,797 students were unable to pass the exams.

The Federal Board showed relatively stronger results. Around 137,000 students appeared in the exams. However, 15,798 students failed despite better overall performance.

Education experts say the failure of 500,000 students highlights serious concerns. They believe the results point to weak preparation and gaps in the education system.

Stakeholders have called for urgent reforms. They emphasize the need to improve teaching methods and student learning support.
