More than 2.1 million smart Electricity Meters have been installed across Pakistan’s power distribution network.
The figures were shared by the Ministry of Energy in a written reply submitted to the Senate. The data covers installations across various electricity distribution companies.
According to the ministry, a total of 2,125,296 smart meters have been installed nationwide. The figures show significant differences between distribution companies.
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has recorded the highest number of installations. It has installed 1,153,556 smart meters across its service area.
LESCO accounts for more than half of the total smart meters reported by the ministry. This makes it the leading distribution company in smart meter deployment.
The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) ranks second. It has installed 348,135 smart meters so far.
The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has installed 229,719 smart meters. It is followed by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO).
IESCO has deployed 119,372 smart meters across its network. Meanwhile, the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has installed 111,948 meters.
Other distribution companies have reported smaller installation figures. The Peshawar Electric Power Company (PESCO) has installed 60,685 smart meters.
K-Electric has reported 50,599 smart meter installations. The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has installed 19,620 meters.
The Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has installed 13,432 smart meters. Meanwhile, the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has deployed 9,194 meters.
The Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) has installed 7,659 smart meters. The Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO) reported the lowest figure.
TESCO has installed 1,377 smart meters across its network.
The figures highlight the varying pace of smart meter deployment among Pakistan’s power distribution companies. LESCO remains significantly ahead of all other companies.
Smart Electricity Meters can support more efficient electricity monitoring and billing. Their wider installation could also provide distribution companies with better usage data.
The government’s reported figures show that smart meter deployment has expanded across multiple regions. However, installation levels remain uneven among distribution companies.
The Ministry of Energy provided the figures as part of its written response to the Senate. The data offers an overview of the current smart meter rollout across the country.
