T20 World Cup: Australia triumphs over Bangladesh in a rain-interrupted match

Australia triumphed over Bangladesh by 28 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, in the Super 8 clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

The match was interrupted by rain when Australia reached 100-2 in 11.2 overs, chasing a 141-run target set by Bangladesh. At the time of suspension, Australia was 28 runs ahead of the DLS par score, securing their victory.

David Warner shone for Australia, scoring an unbeaten 53 runs off 35 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. Travis Head added 31 runs off 21 balls, while Glenn Maxwell contributed 14 unbeaten runs off six balls. Rishad Hossain took both Australian wickets, dismissing Head and captain Mitchell Marsh.

Pat Cummins was named the Player of the Match for his hat-trick, which played a crucial role in restricting Bangladesh to 140-8 in 20 overs. Cummins’ figures were 3-29 in four overs. His hat-trick included dismissing Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan on the last two deliveries of the 18th over and then Towhid Hridoy with the first ball of the 20th over. This was the seventh hat-trick in T20 World Cup history and the second for an Australian since Brett Lee, also against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 41 runs off 36 balls, while Hridoy added 40 runs off 28 balls. Adam Zampa also bowled impressively, taking 2-24 in four overs.
