As the third day of the PTI's Jail Bharo Tehreek begins, Asad Umar's wife petitions the LHC for his release.

The wife of PTI Secretary General Asad Umar filed a habeas corpus plea in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday in order to have her husband released from the Lahore police’s “improper, illegal, and unlawful” confinement.

As part of the PTI’s “Jail Bharo Tehreek” (court arrest drive), which is intended to oppose the “assault” on the party’s fundamental rights and the economic “meltdown,” Umar and other senior PTI leaders courted arrest in Lahore on Wednesday. The Central Prison in Lahore was then where Umar was sent.

Umar’s wife filed a habeas corpus petition under Articles 4 and 9 of the Constitution, naming Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rafia Haider, Lahore Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Punjab Inspector General of Police (Prison) Malik Mubashar Ahmed Khan, and Central Jail’s superintendent as respondents. The petition was handled by Barrister Umair Niazi, Advocate Waqar Mushtaq Toor, and

According to the petition, Umar was being held by the defendants “illegally and improperly” and was not receiving the requisite food and medication from the supervisor.

Umar’s wife said that she had learned that the Lahore DC had issued a “illegal and unlawful” 30-day detention order for her husband and that the police had turned her down when she asked them for information about him.

She claimed she had made every effort to meet Umar so she could observe his wellbeing and standard of living, but the authorities had barred her from doing so.

According to the appeal, Umar was held without being accused of anything and was “not engaged in any anti-social activities.” It said that the respondents were endangering his life and that she and he could both suffer “irreparable damage and injury.”

She asked the court to accept her petition, revoke the detention order against Umar as “unlawful and illegal,” and issue an order directing his release and appearance in court so that he might be freed. The petition’s hearing date was set for February 27. (Monday).
